How the 2025 Aggies achieved an unprecedented 11–0 start
In short: Entering their second year under head coach Mike Elko, the Texas A&M Aggies defied preseason expectations. After being predicted to finish eighth in the SEC, the team surged to a No. 3 AP ranking and secured their first-ever College Football Playoff berth through a historic comeback and a dominant undefeated run.
The 2025 season for Texas A&M was defined by a dramatic reversal of fortune. Despite an SEC media poll released on July 18, 2025, that predicted an eighth-place conference finish, the Aggies delivered a historic performance. A pivotal moment occurred during a game against South Carolina, where the team overcame a 30–3 deficit to win 31–30. This marked the largest comeback in school history and was the first time since at least 1992 that an SEC team had overcome a 27+ point deficit.
The momentum from these early struggles fueled a remarkable ascent. Following a Week 3 road victory against Notre Dame—the program's first win against a ranked opponent since 2014—the Aggies maintained a high level of play. After a Week 13 victory over Samford, the team achieved an 11–0 start, a feat not seen since 1992. This achievement drove them to a No. 3 spot in the AP Poll, their peak since 1995, a rank they kept from Week 9 until Week 14.
The season culminated in the program's first-ever selection to the College Football Playoff. However, their postseason run ended in the first round with a 10–3 loss to Miami. Despite the exit, the season was notable for its massive crowds at Kyle Field. The team averaged 106,159 fans per home game, setting a new record for the stadium, while the December playoff game against Miami drew 104,122 spectators, the second-highest attendance in the history of the College Football Playoff.
