A season of struggle and coaching shifts for the Tennessee Titans
In short: The 2025 Tennessee Titans season was marked by significant instability. From a mid-season coaching change to a difficult rebuilding phase led by rookie quarterback Cam Ward, the franchise faced its worst four-year stretch in history, mirroring difficult periods from their era as the Houston Oilers.
The 2025 season was a transformative and difficult period for the Tennessee Titans. It marked the franchise's 56th season in the NFL and their 29th in Tennessee. The year began under new leadership with general manager Mike Borgonzi, but the team struggled significantly on the field. After a disappointing 1–11 start—the franchise's worst since 1994 as the Houston Oilers—the team saw a major leadership shift. On October 13, head coach Brian Callahan was dismissed and replaced by interim head coach Mike McCoy, who had previously led the San Diego Chargers from 2013 to 2016.
A central figure in the season was rookie quarterback Cam Ward, the team's first overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft. Ward's debut was difficult, but he eventually secured his first NFL win in a 22–21 upset against the Arizona Cardinals, ending a 10-game losing streak. Despite this highlight, the team faced ongoing challenges, including a season-ending injury to wide receiver Calvin Ridley and a losing streak against division rivals.
The season's statistical trends highlight a period of decline. The Titans finished with a 3–14 record, matching their performance from 2024. This resulted in their fourth consecutive losing season and their third consecutive last-place finish in the AFC South. Looking at the broader context, the team's aggregate record from 2022 to 2025 was 19–49 (.279), representing the worst four-year stretch in franchise history since the 1983–1986 period when they were based in Houston.
