From kicking walls in Gyál to a £10.4 million Premier League move
In short: Before he was a rising star in the Premier League, Alex Tóth spent his childhood evenings in Hungary, practicing football tricks against his bedroom wall until late at night. Now, the midfielder's meteoric rise from Ferencváros to Bournemouth has captured the attention of the global footballing elite.
Born in 2005 in Gyál, Hungary, Alex Tóth’s ascent is a study in relentless discipline. His father, László, recalls a childhood defined by obsession, where the young midfielder would practice skills learned from videos until 11:00 PM, long after school hours. This early dedication laid the groundwork for a career that saw him rise through the ranks of the Hungarian football system, moving from the Gloriett Sports School to becoming a standout performer for Ferencváros.
Tóth's professional breakthrough was shaped by pivotal managerial decisions. While Ferencváros sports director Tamás Hajnal initially considered loaning him to smaller clubs to find playing time, the arrival of Irish manager Robbie Keane proved transformative. Keane integrated Tóth into the starting lineup, sparking a period of prolific form. During the 2024–25 season, Tóth demonstrated his clinical edge, scoring against Nyíregyháza in April 2025 and Fehérvár in May 2025, eventually helping Ferencváros secure the league title.
By late 2025, Tóth was recognized as the most valuable player in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I and held the record for the most assists among players under 21. His performances on the European stage, including a crucial free-kick in UEFA Champions League qualifying against Qarabağ, drew interest from Italian clubs like SS Lazio and Como 1907. This culminated in a January 2026 transfer to Premier League side Bournemouth for a reported £10.4 million, where he quickly made his mark, debuting in a victory over Liverpool.
