How Dennis Man became the most expensive export in Romanian football history
In short: From humble beginnings in Arad to the bright lights of Serie A and the Eredivisie, Dennis Man has redefined the ceiling for Romanian talent. His record-breaking transfer to Parma in 2021 signaled a shift in the market, proving that Romanian stars could command elite fees on the global stage.
Born in 1998, Dennis Man began his professional journey at UTA Arad before rising to prominence at FCSB. His rapid development caught the eye of European scouts early; by 2018, he was already featured on UEFA’s list of promising young players. His versatility became his hallmark, evolving from a central striker into a dynamic winger capable of operating across the attacking line. Coaches have frequently lauded his blend of raw speed, technical precision, and mental resilience, describing him as a rare, complete package in the modern game.
The turning point in his career arrived in January 2021, when Parma secured his services for €11 million. This transaction shattered the previous record for a player leaving the Romanian championship, which had been held by Nicolae Stanciu since 2016. Though his time in Italy saw both relegation to Serie B and a triumphant return to the top flight, his impact remained undeniable. He eventually moved to Dutch giants PSV in 2025, where he continued to test himself on the biggest stages, including the Champions League.
On the international front, Man has been a cornerstone of the Romanian national team. His contributions were pivotal during the Euro 2024 campaign, where Romania secured a historic group-stage victory against Ukraine—their first win in the tournament in over two decades. Having been named Romanian Footballer of the Year twice, in 2020 and 2024, Man stands as a testament to the enduring quality of Romanian football development, consistently proving his worth across diverse tactical systems and high-pressure environments.
