In short: Dustin Gazley is an Italian-American professional ice hockey player whose career path defies the conventional draft route. After four years of collegiate play in Michigan, he navigated the competitive landscape of the ECHL and AHL before finding a long-term home in European hockey, where he continues to compete today.

Born on October 3, 1988, Dustin James Gazley began his competitive hockey journey at Michigan State University. Between 2007 and 2011, he competed in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. Despite going undrafted, Gazley transitioned to the professional ranks at the conclusion of the 2010–11 season, joining the Greenville Road Warriors of the ECHL to begin his climb through the North American minor leagues.

His professional development continued in the American Hockey League, where he debuted with the Binghamton Senators during the 2012–13 season. Shortly thereafter, on August 7, 2013, he secured a one-year contract with the Hershey Bears. Gazley became a fixture for the Bears, ultimately spending five seasons with the organization. By the end of the 2017–18 campaign, he had accumulated 278 games of experience within the AHL, establishing himself as a seasoned veteran of the league.

Seeking a new challenge, Gazley departed North America as a free agent in the summer of 2018. On July 12, 2018, he signed his first international contract with the Austrian club EC Red Bull Salzburg, then competing in the EBEL. This move was facilitated by his dual American and Italian citizenship, which he has held since the early 2000s. His Italian heritage, specifically his roots in Sicily through his mother, has played a significant role in his career trajectory, eventually leading him to his current position as a winger for HC Bolzano in the ICE Hockey League.
