From seventh-round draft pick to Major League standout
In short: Jake Bauers' journey through professional baseball is defined by resilience and constant adaptation. After being selected in the 2013 MLB draft, he navigated various minor league systems and team trades before finding significant success through strategic platooning and swing adjustments.
Born on October 6, 1995, Jake Bauers entered professional baseball after a standout high school career at Marina High School. In 2013, he led the Vikings to the CIF Southern Section Division 1 finals at Dodger Stadium before being selected by the San Diego Padres in the seventh round of the 2013 MLB draft, as the 208th overall pick. He initially committed to the University of Hawaii on a scholarship. His professional debut occurred in the Arizona League with the Padres' Rookie-level affiliate.
Bauers' career has been marked by frequent movement across several Major League franchises. He has played for the Tampa Bay Rays, Cleveland Indians, Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, and Milwaukee Brewers. His time with the Rays saw a major milestone on June 14, 2019, when he hit for the cycle against the Detroit Tigers. During his tenure with the Mariners, he recorded a massive 460-foot home run on September 19, the longest by a Mariner since the 2015 season. He also played for the Cleveland Indians and the New York Yankees. His first major league hit was a double against Félix Hernández.
Adaptability has been central to his longevity. In 2022, while playing for the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders for the Yankees, he worked to fundamentally change his swing. This effort contributed to a highly productive 2026 season with the Brewers, where he achieved his best offensive numbers, hitting .266 with 26 home runs and 86 runs batted in across 144 games. While with the RailRiders, he maintained a .352 on-base percentage. He eventually joined the Milwaukee Brewers after being traded by the Yankees in late 2023.
