The wrestler who was hired by the WWF after being lost
In short: Before she became a cult icon of the wrestling world, Luna Vachon was a literal missing person. The World Wrestling Federation had to hire a private investigator just to find her when they attempted to recruit her for the big leagues.
Luna Vachon’s path to stardom was marked by unconventional hurdles. In 1992, while competing in Puerto Rico, she successfully lobbied for her husband, David Heath, to join the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). The company took an interest in her as a result, but a logistical nightmare ensued: no one knew her whereabouts. Even her own father believed she was still in Florida. The WWF eventually had to employ a private investigator to track her down, ultimately discovering her working as a waitress at a restaurant.
Once signed, Vachon debuted at WrestleMania IX in April 1993. Her career was defined by high-concept personas and intense rivalries. She famously joined Kevin Sullivan's 'Army of Darkness,' adopting the Luna Vachon moniker with a trademark Mohawk and body paint—a gimmick she later admitted caused some personal uneasiness. She also became a central figure in several major storylines, including a notable 'love triangle' with Bam Bam Bigelow and various high-profile feuds against rivals like Alundra Blayze (Madusa) and Sable.
Vachon’s career was as diverse as it was grueling. She worked across the globe, from Japan to Puerto Rico, and transitioned between roles as a competitor, manager, and commentator. Despite facing internal friction—such as being threatened by officials for not 'taking bumps' correctly during an Evening Gown match against Sable—she remained a fixture of the industry. Her legacy was cemented through multiple Hall of Fame inductions, recognizing her 22-year journey from a lost waitress to a wrestling pioneer.
Luna's influence on the industry is shown by her being the initial female character featured within a WWF gaming title during 1994. Beyond the screen, she navigated the complex politics of the 'Million Dollar Corporation' and the Human Oddities stable, often balancing legitimate physical injury with the demands of theatrical performance.
