The rise and travels of a Premier League standout
In short: From a promising academy talent to a European champion, Max Aarons has navigated the highs of promotion and the lows of relegation. Follow the journey of a defender whose career has spanned the English, Spanish, and Scottish top flights.
Maximillian James Aarons, born on 4 January 2000, began his professional ascent within the Norwich City academy, which he joined in 2016. After signing a professional contract in June 2018, he quickly established himself as a vital right-back. His early years were marked by significant individual accolades, including being named the EFL Young Player of the Season for 2018–19 and earning a place in the Championship Team of the Season.
Aarons' tenure at Norwich was a rollercoaster of competitive fortunes. He experienced the triumph of promotion to the Premier League in 2019, followed by relegation in 2020, and a subsequent return to the top flight in 2021. Despite facing setbacks, such as an injury sustained against Leeds United that sidelined him for part of the 2021–22 season, he remained a mainstay for the club, reaching 150 appearances by January 2022.
In August 2023, Aarons moved to Bournemouth for a £7m fee, contributing to a record-breaking points total for the club. His career has since seen him traverse Europe on loan, moving to Valencia in Spain in January 2025, and later joining Rangers in Scotland in June 2025. While his international future was once subject to speculation regarding a potential call-up from Jamaica, Aarons has remained steadfast in his commitment to representing England.
Beyond his club career, Aarons reached a pinnacle of youth football in June 2023, starting in the final where England defeated Spain 1–0 to win the UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
