A demon girl's pursuit of souls takes a surprising romantic turn
In short: In the manga series Mistress Kanan Is Devilishly Easy, a powerful demon from another world enters the human realm to devour souls. However, her mission is derailed when her target falls in love with her, forcing this inexperienced predator to navigate the complexities of human romance.
Written and illustrated by Nonco, the series began its serialization in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine on June 1, 2022. Kanan Takakiyo, the athletic and well-liked discipline committee head at Tama Municipal Votive Academy, is the protagonist. While Kanan is actually a demon seeking human souls, her life changes when she targets junior student Yōji Kyōgi. Instead of being devoured, Yōji falls in love with her, eventually leading the two to enter a relationship. The story follows Kanan Takakiyo, a popular student serving as the head of the school's discipline committee. Her life shifts dramatically after she summons Yōji Kyōgi, a junior student, only to find him becoming romantically devoted to her.
The plot features various human and supernatural figures, such as Jeanne, a God's awkward apostle from heaven, and Ami, a demon-world succubus maid who tries to compel the pair to be intimate. The series explores themes of romance and misunderstanding, particularly as Kanan lacks experience in love and holds incorrect beliefs about relationships. The complexity of Kanan's family is also explored, including her mother Lilim, who suffers from severe androphobia, and her father, the Archdemon of Gluttony, Beelzebub. Ami, a succubus maid from the demon realm, frequently attempts to force the couple into kissing. Additionally, the narrative introduces Yuriko, a homeroom teacher who is currently dating Ami.
The franchise has seen significant expansion since its debut. In October 2025, Seven Seas Entertainment announced an English omnibus release scheduled for July 2026. An anime adaptation produced by Studio Kai aired between April 5 and June 21, 2026. A second season was revealed after the initial season finished. In 2023, the manga earned recognition through a nomination for the ninth Next Manga Awards, placing seventeenth from 41 total nominees. The anime production was directed by Yasushi Muroya and features music by Shūhei Mutsuki. Furthermore, the series is available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
