In short: After becoming defunct in 2005, Ludogorets Razgrad underwent a radical transformation. From the brink of disappearance, they emerged to secure an unprecedented run of consecutive league titles, challenging the established hierarchy of Bulgarian football and making significant waves across Europe's most prestigious tournaments.

The modern era of PFC Ludogorets 1945 began with a complex rebirth. Originally established in November 1945 through the merger of several rural clubs from the Ludogorie Region, the club saw various iterations, including a merger with FC Antibiotic Razgrad in 1997. However, the club became defunct in 2005. Its resurgence began in the 2009/10 season when Aleksandar Aleksandrov inherited the history and records of the former Antibiotic-Ludogorets, restoring the original name and setting the stage for a meteoric rise.

The club's ascent was fueled by significant investment and strategic leadership. In September 2010, pharmaceutical entrepreneur Kiril Domuschiev purchased the club with the intent of reaching the top division. This ambition was realized in May 2011 when, under head coach Ivaylo Petev, the team earned promotion to the Bulgarian top-flight for the first time. Their impact was immediate; in their inaugural 2011–12 season, they captured both the league championship and the Bulgarian Cup, completing a domestic double.

Since that 2011 promotion, Ludogorets has established a period of unprecedented dominance, winning 14 consecutive Bulgarian league titles. This run includes historic continental achievements, such as reaching the UEFA Europa League knockout stages four times—more than any other Bulgarian club. They also became the second Bulgarian team to enter the UEFA Champions League main phase, achieved during the 2014–15 season. Their success is marked by high-profile moments, such as a 1–0 win over Basel in Sofia and a stunning goal against Real Madrid in the Champions League group stage.

This sustained success has redefined the landscape of Bulgarian football. Beyond their league dominance, the club holds a record nine Bulgarian Supercup titles. Their ability to maintain such high standards has seen them achieve multiple domestic trebles, including a historic feat in the 2024–25 season where they secured the championship as early as April, with five games to spare.
