In short: Rashad Jennings was once a 270-pound high school kid with asthma and glasses who barely saw the field. After a scout told him to fix his grades, he transformed into an NFL running back and a ballroom dancing champion. His journey is a masterclass in radical reinvention.

Jennings' path to professional sports began with a significant hurdle: academic struggle. At Jefferson Forest High School, he was a fifth-string running back who only entered a game during his junior year because the primary backs were injured and the coach tried to play a wide receiver in their place. During that first appearance, he scored a 30-yard touchdown. A scout from the University of Tennessee noticed him but was immediately concerned by his 0.6 GPA, telling him he had potential but needed to prioritize his academics.

Following that advice, Jennings transferred to Lynchburg Christian Academy. His brothers, who were coaching there, helped fund his tuition. At the new school, Jennings began a physical and academic turnaround. He shed weight and repeated his junior year to improve his standing. During his final year of high school, he earned All-VISAA Division II honours twice, accumulating 56 touchdowns and 3,287 yards. Following a stint with the Pittsburgh Panthers, he moved to Liberty University and established a Big South Conference mark of 3,633 yards and 42 touchdowns.

His professional career saw him navigate the volatility of the NFL as a backup for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Oakland Raiders, and New York Giants. Despite various injuries—including a concussion and a knee injury that sidelined him for two consecutive seasons—he eventually found success as a starter for the Giants. Beyond the gridiron, Jennings achieved a unique cultural crossover, winning Season 24 of Dancing with the Stars in 2017. He has since become a recurring figure on the show, appearing as a guest judge, a trio partner, and a relay dancer.
