In short: Tyrick Mitchell’s path to Premier League stardom was anything but easy. Facing family instability and the sudden closure of his academy, the left-back overcame significant injury setbacks and personal hardship to become a cornerstone for Crystal Palace and an England international.

Born in Brent, London, on 1 September 1999, Mitchell’s early years were marked by significant instability. His father spent much of his childhood in prison, and his mother relied on benefits to support the family, leading to struggles with school attendance. It was through the mentorship of Abdi Farah at AFC Wembley that Mitchell found the stability needed to pursue professional football.

His professional journey faced a major hurdle in May 2016 when the Brentford Academy, where he had been studying since 2012, was shut down due to financial decisions. Rather than letting this end his career, Mitchell moved to Crystal Palace in July 2016. He rose through the ranks, becoming a regular for the under-23s and securing a new contract in January 2019, just before a five-month thigh injury interrupted his momentum.

Mitchell’s resilience eventually led to major successes. He earned his first England senior cap on 26 March 2022, appearing as a substitute against Switzerland. By the 2024–25 season, he had become a mainstay for Palace, missing only three games. This consistency culminated in a historic achievement on 17 May 2025, when he played every minute in Crystal Palace's 1–0 victory over Manchester City to secure the club's first major trophy in the FA Cup final.

Beyond his pitch performance, Mitchell has become a prominent figure in community outreach, receiving the PFA Community Champion Award at the end of the 2022–23 season for his work with the Palace for Life Foundation's GAME ON programme.
