From humble beginnings to the top flight: the rapid rise of Dubai's United FC
In short: Founded in 2022, United FC has rapidly ascended the ranks of Emirati football. In just four years, the club transitioned from the second division to the UAE Pro League. By securing high-profile management and strategic international partnerships, this Dubai-based team has transformed from a local startup into a top-tier competitor.
Established in September 2022, United FC began its competitive journey in the UAE Second Division. The club quickly signaled its ambition by investing in new talent and tactical innovation, which propelled them to a second-place finish in their inaugural season. This period was marked by a dominant run, as the team concluded the second half of their campaign without a single defeat, boasting the league's most effective offensive and defensive records.
The club's growth strategy involved significant international exposure and professional restructuring. In 2023, the team held a summer training camp in Moldova, followed by high-level friendly matches against international squads. Management also focused on technical development, appointing figures like Jean Marc Nobilo as technical director and later bringing in Andrea Pirlo as manager for the 2025–26 season. These efforts were bolstered by strategic signings, including players like Marcelo Torres, who netted 26 goals in a single season, and later additions such as Haris Seferovic and Gian Marco Ferrari.
The 2025–26 season served as a pivotal turning point. While the club narrowly missed promotion that year, they reached the semi-finals of the UAE President's Cup after defeating established Pro League sides like Sharjah FC and Al Wahda FC. By finishing second in the First Division, the club finally earned its promotion to the UAE Pro League. To accommodate their new status, the team transitioned their home venue to Al-Maktoum Stadium, while maintaining their training facilities at the ISD Stadium Pitch in Dubai Sports City.
Today, United FC operates as a comprehensive football organization, including a reserve team, United FC II, and a youth academy competing in the UAE FA National League. The club has also secured various commercial partnerships, including a kit manufacturing deal with Adidas for the 2026–27 season. Their debut in the top flight began in August 2026, marking the culmination of a rapid four-year climb through the Emirati football pyramid.
