In short: In February 2010, the space shuttle Endeavour completed a high-stakes delivery to the International Space Station. It wasn't just another cargo run; it was the installation of the final U.S. module and a unique seven-windowed observation deck that fundamentally changed how astronauts view our planet.

The STS-130 mission, launched on February 8, 2010, from Launch Pad 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, served as the 32nd shuttle flight to the International Space Station. Its primary objective was the delivery and installation of the Tranquility node (also known as Node 3). The name 'Tranquility' was notable for its origin: it was selected from thousands of suggestions submitted by the public via a NASA website titled "Help Name Node 3."

Beyond providing structural connectivity, the mission included the installation of the cupola. This mini control tower features seven windows and serves as a dedicated robotics control room while offering an unparalleled view of Earth. To facilitate these upgrades, the Endeavour crew performed three spacewalks to outfit the station with its final U.S. components. Moving the station's regenerative life support system to the Tranquility module represented a vital phase of the transition.

Covering roughly 5.7 million miles, the shuttle journey spanned 13 days, 18 hours, 6 minutes, and 24 seconds. The crew, led by Commander George Zamka, met with the Expedition 22 team to finalize these installations. A significant milestone of the flight was a congratulatory phone call from President Obama to the orbiting crew, marking the completion of this major construction phase.

Technically, the launch required complex logistics, including multiple 'built-in holds' during the countdown to manage fuel cell loading and cryogenic offloading. The shuttle reached an altitude of 122 nautical miles at an inclination of 51.6 degrees before returning to Florida on February 21, 2010.
