How a hockey injury transformed a New Jersey teen into a gaming giant
In short: Rani Netz didn't set out to be a professional streamer. After a concussion ended his ice hockey career, he turned to gaming, eventually winning a major Fortnite championship and navigating the volatile world of elite content houses like FaZe Clan and NRG.
Born in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, on January 15, 2003, Rani Netz—known to millions as Stable Ronaldo—found his calling through necessity. A concussion sustained while playing ice hockey forced him to abandon the sport, leading him to explore digital landscapes. His journey from a casual player with a 2014 gaming laptop to a professional competitor began in earnest when he purchased a gaming PC around the release of Fortnite.
Netz's competitive peak arrived in 2019, when he secured a victory in the FNCS: Chapter 2 Season 1 Grand Finals. This success paved the way for a rapid ascent during the COVID-19 pandemic. His viewership exploded, with his follower count surging from approximately 800,000 to over one million throughout 2020. This period saw him join the NRG content house in August 2020, living alongside creators like Clix and UnknownArmy.
His career has been marked by both high-profile drama and significant industry influence. He has navigated public feuds, such as a 2023 dispute with streamer Ninja, and physical altercations, including a 2024 incident where fitness influencer Bradley Martyn slapped him during a stream. Despite these controversies, Netz has remained a central figure in the streaming ecosystem, hosting major events like The Streamer Awards and appearing in high-profile commercials alongside stars like LeBron James.
Today, Netz is a prominent figure in the Los Angeles streaming scene, having navigated the restructuring of FaZe Clan and various management shifts. His evolution from a competitive Fortnite champion to a versatile content creator illustrates the shifting dynamics of digital celebrity in the modern era.
