From Nebraska quarterback to NFL cornerback: the resilient journey of Cam Taylor-Britt
In short: Before becoming a professional NFL cornerback, Cam Taylor-Britt was a dual-threat quarterback in Nebraska. His path to the league involved navigating injuries, high-stakes trades, and significant shifts in position, eventually establishing himself as a key defensive starter for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Born on October 15, 1999, in Benkelman, Nebraska, Taylor-Britt's football foundation was built at Dundy County-Stratton. During his final year of high school, he showed great range, throwing for 1,466 yards and 14 touchdowns on 77 of 130 completions, plus gaining 1,030 rushing yards and 16 scores from 117 carries. Despite interest from the Auburn Tigers, he ultimately committed to the University of Nebraska.
At Nebraska, Taylor-Britt transitioned to defense, playing both safety and cornerback. His collegiate success included being named to the second-team All-Big Ten Conference in the 2020 season and again after his senior year. These performances caught the attention of NFL scouts, though projections varied; while some analysts expected him to be a third-round pick, others ranked him as high as the 10th best cornerback prospect.
After trading with the Buffalo Bills, the Cincinnati Bengals picked him during the 2022 NFL Draft's second round (60th overall). His professional career has been marked by both highs and setbacks. He has navigated abdominal surgery, quadriceps injuries, and a Lisfranc injury that required surgery in 2025. Despite these hurdles, he has recorded multiple interceptions and touchdowns, including a career-high four interceptions during the 2023 season.
Taylor-Britt's career has also faced off-field challenges. In early 2026, he was sentenced to five days in jail for reckless driving and driving without a license following a 2025 incident. In August 2027, he faced a one-game suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy. In March 2026, he joined the Indianapolis Colts via a one-year deal worth $1.402 million.
