The versatile running back who rewrote the record books at Arizona State
In short: From a single scholarship at Sacramento State to a historic senior season at Arizona State, Cam Skattebo’s path to the NFL was defined by sheer versatility. A player who could rush, pass, and punt, he became a rare force capable of dominating every facet of the football field.
Cam Skattebo’s ascent through the collegiate ranks was marked by an unusual multi-dimensional skill set. After playing for the Sacramento State Hornets, where he earned first-team all-Big Sky honors and Big Sky offensive player of the year in 2022, he transferred to the Arizona State Sun Devils. His time at ASU was characterized by an ability to impact the game beyond traditional rushing. In a 2023 matchup against USC, he contributed through the air and on the ground, and throughout his tenure, he demonstrated proficiency in passing and even punting.
His senior season in 2024 stands as a landmark in Sun Devils history. Skattebo recorded 1,711 rushing yards and 605 receiving yards, totaling over 2,000 yards from scrimmage—the first player in program history to achieve this feat. He also set the school record for touchdowns from scrimmage. His performance earned him 5th place in the Heisman voting, and his 1,711 rushing yards were the second-highest in the FBS that year, trailing only Ashton Jeanty.
Skattebo’s professional career with the New York Giants began after he was selected in the fourth round, 105th overall, of the 2025 NFL draft. Despite a season-ending ankle dislocation in October 2025, he demonstrated resilience by returning to the field in September 2026. Known for an aggressive, downhill running style reminiscent of traditional fullbacks, Skattebo has transitioned from a collegiate standout to a significant figure in the NFL, even making headlines for his involvement in a staged WWE scuffle on Monday Night Raw in November 2025.
