From college standout to NFL rookie, the turbulent rise of Jordan Addison
In short: In just a few seasons, Jordan Addison has transitioned from a decorated college wide receiver to a first-round NFL talent. Yet, his rapid ascent has been punctuated by high-speed chases, legal disputes, and significant suspensions that have shadowed his performance on the field.
Jordan Addison’s football journey began with immense promise. After playing multiple positions at Tuscarora High School in Maryland, he joined the Pittsburgh Panthers. His 2021 season was particularly dominant; he recorded 100 receptions for 1,593 yards and led the nation in touchdown receptions with 17. This performance earned him the Fred Biletnikoff Award and consensus All-American honors. Following a transfer to the USC Trojans in 2022, where he wore the #3 jersey previously held by Heisman winner Carson Palmer, Addison entered the NFL in 2023.
Selected 23rd overall by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2023 NFL draft, Addison’s rookie campaign was statistically impressive. He appeared in all 17 games, starting 14, and amassed 70 receptions for 911 yards and ten touchdowns, earning a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie Team. He continued to produce throughout 2024, notably recording three touchdowns in a single game against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 14.
However, his professional career has been marked by significant off-field volatility. In July 2023, Addison was cited for driving 140 mph in a 55 mph zone in a Lamborghini Urus, later pleading guilty to a petty misdemeanor. His 2024 season was marred by a DUI arrest near LAX, which eventually resulted in a plea to a 'wet reckless' charge in 2025. Furthermore, a violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy led to a three-game suspension at the start of the 2025 season. Despite these setbacks, the Vikings demonstrated their commitment to his talent by picking up his fifth-year option on April 27, 2026.
