In short: Vaibhav Reddy's cinematic journey began with a commercial disappointment in 2007. Yet, the son of filmmaker A. Kodandarami Reddy transitioned from that rocky start to becoming a staple in major Tamil and Telugu productions, eventually breaking away from his comedic roots to tackle intense, restrained roles.

Born Sumanth Reddy on 21 April 1978 in Chennai, the actor known professionally as Vaibhav entered the industry through his father's direction. His debut in the 2007 Telugu film Godava failed to find significant success at the box office, a common hurdle for many newcomers. However, his trajectory shifted when he collaborated with director Venkat Prabhu, finding both critical and commercial success in the Tamil comedy-thriller Saroja in 2008.

This partnership with Prabhu proved fruitful, leading to subsequent releases like the comedy Goa in early 2010 and the massive blockbuster Mankatha. Mankatha was particularly significant, as it secured the second-highest-grossing opening for a Tamil film at the time. Following these successes, Vaibhav diversified his repertoire, taking on his first solo lead role in the 2014 film Damaal Dumeel, where he portrayed a software industry professional.

In recent years, Vaibhav has demonstrated significant range. While he is widely recognized for his comedic timing, his 2024 film Ranam Aram Thavarel saw him move in a diametrically opposite direction, playing a restrained and straight-faced character in an investigation thriller. His career has spanned various formats, from theatrical releases like Sixer and RK Nagar to digital platforms via Netflix and SonyLIV series like Bench Life.

His educational background includes schooling at Cambridge Matriculation Higher Secondary School and St. He attended St. Bede's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in Chennai, while also undergoing professional training with Sathyanand of Vizag and at Mumbai's Asha Chandra School of Acting.
